Journaling 101: How to Journal & The Benefits

how to journal & the benefits

Ahhh! I have so much to say about journaling. I’m going to give you the 101 on how to journal, my ways of course, and the MANY benefits.

The Benefits

For one, it is EXTREMELY therapeutic. Do not underestimate the power in it. It may sound simple but the power in writing down thoughts, feelings, emotions, ideas, gratitude – extremely beneficial.

Writing in a journal benefits my life in so many ways. Some ways include, boost my mood, relieve stress, enhance my overall well-being, improve my memory, FREE MY MIND!! – A plus for the over-thinkers like myself out there. Mannn, I can go on forever and talk about it all day!

For me, journaling is a form of meditation. Kind of like a written form of prayer. I use it as a means of expressing myself through writing, and without realizing, manifesting the life I want.

Since 2015 until now, journaling has easily become one of my favorite things to do. I began my consistent journaling journey after college. It was while I was in my first real job after graduating. I was on a quest to finding a deeper meaning to life. My life’s purpose. I remember feeling unfulfilled with what I was doing. If you’d like to hear more of that story, check it out here. Then, I read a book and it introduced me to the wonders of having a journal or journalsss in my case haha.

And let me tell you, it has carried me though. It has changed my life. I’ve never looked back.

How To Journal

You might be asking how to journal, maybe even when to journal. Well, I try to journal daily, but sometimes it may just be an urge, a feeling. There are different ways I journal, which has to do with the topic I choose to journal about. These topics vary depending on the mood I’m in.

It can be a brain dump (write down everything on my mind). Literally, I let it all out in bullet note, in paragraphs. However, whatever!

Or, it may be a reflection. I normally do this at the end of each year to see what I have accomplished from the beginning through to the end of the year.

It can also be a gratitude list I write down. For this, it’s usually in bullet form. I have a separate journal where I write the things I’m grateful for that day.

I also journal every and any idea that comes to mind, which has shown an amazing trend throughout the years for me. Doing this, I’ve seen that I basically write down the same type of ideas, with an add on here and there. It really then tells what I’m truly interested in / passionate about and should get going on! It’s so cool to see.

Another journal format for me include writing down my goals, with sub goals, which are just smaller goals under a big goal. If you’re serious about accelerating and ticking off things to get to another level. Write your goals down!

Lastly, whenever I’m reading any life changing self development books (check out the story here), watching any motivational interviews, listening to inspiring podcasts, I use my journal to write down the powerful takeaways from them so that I can go back and re read.

As you can see, there are many, mannyyy things to journal about. As well as, there are many benefits to writing in a journal. It’s been a real eye opener for me. When I look back on my previous journal entries, I see the growth I’ve gone through and the goals I’ve accomplished. I also see the things I need to work on, the things that changed in my life – or didn’t change, and I just continue asking / manifesting until it comes to fruition.

I suggest you giving it a try. It’s very easy to do. You’ll love it if you love expressing yourself especially through writing. Even if not, use it as an outlet. Let it all out!
